Joe O’Brien (he/him), a research analyst at Mathematica, works primarily with states and local governments to help them improve their family support and cash assistance programs. Over the past five years, he has worked closely with New York City, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and the California Department of Social Services on a variety of initiatives focused on better serving families receiving TANF. In these roles, he has facilitated human centered design sessions with program and provider staff, supported the LI2 process, developed training materials, and analyzed feedback from program providers and participants. Joe holds a B.A in Political Science and History from Fordham University and, prior to joining Mathematica, assisted with community planning efforts at the New York City Economic Development Corporation.
