Dr. Jei Africa (he/him) is a staunch advocate for health equity at a time when many people’s rights are being taken away. He works tirelessly toward achieving greater social justice and access to care for all patients, particularly those who are underserved, marginalized, or otherwise vulnerable. As a behavioral health leader in Northern California, Dr. Africa has directed community outreach efforts, expanded care for justice-involved clients, and initiated residential facility projects to support people with mental health and substance abuse conditions. He's a founding member of the San Mateo LGBTQ+ Commission and launched San Mateo Pride, the county’s first multidisciplinary LGBTQ+ community center.

Dr. Africa immigrated to the United States from the Philippines in the ’90s to earn a doctoral degree in clinical psychology. He began his career as one of the few licensed therapists in the San Francisco Bay Area who spoke Tagalog and was certified as a domestic violence and addiction counselor.
