Cultivating Inclusive & Equitable Data Cultures
Virtual | 90 minutes

Virtual Workshop for CalWORKs & CalFresh All Staff

  • 90-minute instructor-led session
  • Capacity: 50 participants

This workshop will examine current data collection standards of practice and the implications of resulting data on methodological bias, perpetuation of stereotypes, and disenfranchisement of marginalized people and entire communities. This workshop will introduce a paradigm shift to promote a favorable change to the CalWORKs and CalFresh participant experience. Specifically, the workshop will introduce participants to foundational terms and concepts to effectively understand and operationalize equity, diversity and inclusion when engaging data in a meaningful way. Finally, the workshop will discuss how equity work attempts to correct the methodological and data bias and how to create data equity-driven cultures.

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the historical impacts of inadequate methodological approaches that lead to inequitable data collection standards of practice.
  • Understand why there is a need to “course correct” with the help of equity centered frameworks.
  • Define the concept of data equity and explain its importance within the context of CalFresh and CalWORKs data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Identify steps and tools that are available to conduct equity-focused data collection and analysis.
