Train-the-Trainer: Microaggressions & Bias

Join The Nova Collective’s learning leaders for an immersive facilitation skill-building program, giving you the tools to lead the impactful “Microaggressions” and “Bias” workshop for your staff. This program will provide you with an accessible entry-point to facilitating dialogue, so that your staff can:
- Define key terms and concepts that underpin the experiences of microaggression and bias
- Distinguish between intent and impact
- Mitigate microaggressions and biases using tangible disruption frameworks
- Commit to actionable next steps
Signing up for this session is a critical part of the ecosystem that will sustain the work of the REIB Statewide Initiative into the future.
The 3-part structure of this program includes:
Part 1
- Experiencing the Content
- Participate in the workshop and unpack reflections from the training
Part 2
- Understanding Our Approach, Self work and Facilitation tips and tools
- Dig deeper into content knowledge including key terms and concepts that provide a foundation for understanding microaggressions and bias
- Build an understanding of concepts and skills (event cycle and reflection, responding to hot buttons, and calling in/calling out)
Part 3
- Practice Content Facilitation
- Practice facilitation and challenging conversations
- Collaborate with partners to try on and adapt facilitation approaches
- Understand the value of disrupting defensiveness and making amends
- Review best practices for interrupting exclusive behavior and moving forward after missteps
- Explore definitions and examples of dominant and counter narratives
- Expand on common narratives that show up in our lives and in our workplaces
